Our Story
From a physical education class to structured archery enrichment for schools.
Have you noticed a shift in today's generation of students? Many young people are spending more time on screens and less time participating in hands-on activities, connecting with others, and exploring the outdoors. Schools and families are looking for meaningful enrichment experiences that help students build confidence, develop new skills, and engage in positive, active learning.
Where It Started
For our founder, Zach, this need became clear throughout more than 15 years of working as a physical educator in Omaha and Denver Public Schools. He witnessed how important it was for students to have opportunities to focus, collaborate, take healthy risks, and experience success outside of traditional classroom activities.
Zach pursued a Master's degree in Educational Leadership and began exploring ways to create engaging, skill-based experiences for students. In 2022, he partnered with his longtime friend Luke Essley, a certified archery instructor and professional outdoor guide, to introduce archery into the school environment. Together, they worked alongside Colorado Parks and Wildlife, became certified archery instructors, secured funding for equipment, and launched archery programming through physical education classes and after-school activities.

Colorado Archery Academy was created to bring those experiences to more schools through structured enrichment programming. Our school-based programs combine archery instruction with teamwork, character development, outdoor learning, and age-appropriate challenges. While archery is at the center of what we do, our larger goal is to help students build skills that extend beyond the range.

Colorado Archery Academy's mission is to provide engaging, safe, and educational archery enrichment programs for students in grades 2nd–12th. Through our archery courses and enrichment experiences, we help students develop confidence, focus, discipline, teamwork, and lifelong skills.
A Hands-On Learning Platform
Through school-based and after-school programming, we use archery as a hands-on learning platform. Students are encouraged to practice patience, manage challenges, communicate with peers, and build confidence through consistent effort and positive instruction.
